Next Chapter: The Fashionista

The Village of Cross Keys
is a Fashionista’s haven. Located in northern Baltimore, The Village hosts a collection of luxury boutiques and amenities. An early design by James Rouse, The Village was built with a community concept in mind; there’s shopping, cafes, condos, and a hotel, truly creating a little town center. It’s easy to spend the better part of a day wandering through the shops, chatting over a coffee, or enjoying an afternoon lunch date.

The Store LTD, founded by Betty Cooke, is a distinct staple at the shopping center. Cooke is a legendary force in the jewelry design community. Her work’s aesthetic was born in the modern era of design, and today she is an internationally recognized and museum collected jewelry designer. A true powerhouse, she’s worn many hats over the years, from operating her store for over fifty years with her husband, to teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art for almost two decades. Needless to say, she’s maintained her status as a coveted jewelry designer to collect.

While at The Village, you can also visit Ruth Shaw and Octavia Boutiques, specializing in designer fashions and a personal experience. Harper’s Bazaar recognizes Ruth Shaw for it’s continued excellence in fashion, offering designers like Derek Lam, Helmut Lang, and Moschino. Octavia Boutique has been family owned since 1965 and “is the go-to stop for women with impeccable taste, who appreciate top-notch service” according to the current owner Betsy Wendell.

Easy access to the highway yields a quick drive to Towson Town Center, where the Luxury Wing of the mall will satisfy any lingering wishes. You’ll find stores including Burberry and Louis Vuitton.

In the mood for more fashion? It’s Baltimore Fashion Week, running from August 6-13, 2017. BFW is a week of events including fashion shows featuring designers from Baltimore to Couture from Uganda. It’s an exciting week to get acquainted with designers you might not know of, but will want on your radar. Hosted at the Columbus Center in downtown Baltimore.
